How we celebrate the full moon in Minnesota

ice-houses-full-moon-StaatsThis past weekend brought us the biggest and brightest full moon, and we were fortunate to have clear skies.  And since it’s Minnesota, and it’s cold here,  this is one of the most popular outdoor activities — ice fishing.   It’s still a bit unnerving to me to drive out on a frozen lake, but that’s exactly what we did on Saturday night.  What  we found was a large community of houses and people enjoying the evening with fishing and snowmobiling.  And the full moon didn’t let us down — it rose large and beautiful over a calm winter’s evening.  Later we unpacked our snowshoes and wandered through a beautiful scientific & natural area near the St. Croix River, illuminated completely by the full moon.  It was a perfect way to enjoy a beautiful Minnesota winter’s evening.

New Year’s in Kansas City

plaza-tower2-1-09I was fortunate to spend New Year’s in the Kansas City area with my family.  One of the unique sights of Kansas City is the Country Club Plaza area.  And it is even more beautiful during the holiday season, when the buildings are lined with lights.  I’ve made a point to photograph here whenever I’m in the area, and this trip I was lucky to have my niece Lucy photographing with me.  Although the night was cool by Kansas City standards, we had a grand time and enjoyed the festivities of the area.

A new year and a new project

With a new year I’m starting a new project.  I’m hoping to use this blog to pass on information and photos from my life here in Minnesota.  Many of my friends have wondered about my move to Minnesota from the beautiful Pacific Northwest, however I’ve found that there is beauty everywhere, and especially here in the Midwest.  So I plan to share some of my experiences and photos, and I welcome your comments and questions.  Check back frequently for new posts and new adventures.  Thanks!
